Legends and stories of Podravina
Discover Ludbreg, the “Center of the World” with Roman excavations, pilgrimage sites and wine roads that are perfectly explored both by bike and on foot.
Between the Drava River Valley and the Hungarian border on one side, and Bilogorje on the other, Podravina is located, offering various attractions and numerous facilities in a small area.
Ludbreg, the so-called Center of the World, which is associated with numerous legends and stories, including the one that this is the center of the Earth, is also an important place for many believers because of its pilgrimage. For history lovers, Ludbreg is interesting because of the Roman excavations in the very center of the city.
Grapevines are grown on the surrounding hills. Today, the Ludbreg Wine Roads are extremely popular, as are the cycling trails.
Spend a day in Koprivnica with its Baroque architecture and Renaissance Festival, refresh yourself at Lake Šoderica, admire the naive art in Hlebine and experience the Đurđevačke pijeske with its real desert and animal ranch.
Following the Drava plain, we recommend stopping in Koprivnica. The old town core is a unique monumental ensemble consisting of numerous Baroque houses and palaces. It comes alive most at the end of summer, when the Renaissance Festival is held in Koprivnica. This historical spectacle is one of the largest medieval-themed festivals in this part of Europe and attracts more and more visitors every year. In the immediate vicinity of Koprivnica there is a real paradise for swimming, fishing and relaxation. This is Šoderica, an artificial lake that has over time become a favorite picnic spot during the summer months, but also during the colder part of the year. In addition to water activities, this is a place for long walks or enjoying watching wild birds. Following the course of the Drava River, you will reach Hlebino, a small town of great naive artists, a direction in art whose motifs were most often depictions of the everyday life of this region.
We recommend ending your visit to this area in Đurđevac, a town where there is a real desert, called Đurđevac Sands. For a complete experience, we recommend visiting the Croatian Sahara, a ranch with camels and other animals.
