Đakovo Stud Farm – the pride of Slavonian tradition
Experience the magic of the Lipizzaners and discover the centuries-old story of horse breeding in the heart of Slavonia.
We recommend that you remember that in Đakovo, one of the most beautiful Croatian cities, it is worth visiting the 84-meter-high cathedral in the very center, as well as the famous and noble Lipizzaner breed of horses, the most famous symbol of this region.
The Đakovo Stud Farm was founded in 1506, which makes it one of the oldest stud farms in Europe and speaks of a long tradition of horse breeding in the area. Lipizzaner horses at the Stud Farm began to be bred at the beginning of the 19th century, and at one time they even delighted the English Queen Elizabeth II. However, the State Stud Farm is not the only thing that connects Đakovo with the British court — their love for Slavonian wines is also known, of which Ilok Traminac was served at royal coronations and weddings.
Baranja is synonymous with untouched nature and top-quality wines. Kopački rit, one of the largest and most important wetland reserves in Europe.
The beauty of Slavonia is not easy to describe. From Osijek, a city on the Drava River that delights with its 18th-century walls, numerous storks and street art, to the beautiful Baranja and the expanses of the Prince's Vineyards.
A sophisticated palate will enjoy the Ukutjevo wines, one of the most famous symbols of Croatian wine culture, as well as numerous Slavonian specialties.
In the far east of the country, we recommend visiting the banks of the Danube and Vukovar. The word "history" in the context of Vukovar is truly long, as evidenced by the nearby Museum of Vučedol Culture, which tells the story of the ancestors who created the beginnings of European cultural development in this area several millennia ago.
